MV5BMTQ4NDQ4OTUzOV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwMjMzMTUyNw@@._V1_UY268_CR12,0,182,268_AL_30Rock is one of my favourite shows at the moment. It is set at NBC behind the scenes at a show that is clearly similar to Saturday Night Live, and since the creator is the same person who made Saturday Night Live, Lorne Michaels knows what happens behind the scenes. It has hilarious comedy, hidden jokes that you need to pay attention to understand, and finally, SO MANY REFERENCES! To understand every reference you would have to do a lot of research, making these 20 minute episodes last an hour.

While this show has quickly become one of my favourites, it’s probably not for everyone. I really enjoy some great laughs while I’m watching, and this show delivers on that aspect, however, the character development is little to none. They rarely give anything emotional for the characters to go through, and the characters don’t change, but they are constantly, predictably the same. While I see this as a strength because this consistency helps solidify the comedy, that could be seen as as weakness to some.

It has a lot of running jokes, going from one character’s enjoyment of food, to another’s seemed immortality, it brings a lot to the table with that, and never ceases to make me laugh. This show is a combination of many different types of comedy shows, and it goes together so well. It uses some of the same comedy used in the movie Angie Tribeca, quick, hidden jokes like those in Arrested Development, and uses the mania that the Office portrayed well.

Ultimately, this is definitely a show you should watch if you want a quick laugh.
